We take a closer look at the biggest annual multi-sport event on the UK University sport calendar – the 2024 BUCS Nationals.
The 2024 BUCS Nationals will take place on the Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th February as students from across the UK will attempt to be crowned national champions in their respective sports.
Over 4,000 students traveled to the city of Sheffield last year to compete in four Championship events including Badminton, Indoor Athletics, Long Course Swimming, and Climbing.
This year, Fencing and Karate both make their return, taking the total number of Championships to six and setting the stage for another spectacular showcase of UK university sport.
We take a brief look at each of the Championship events that will be taking place over three action-packed days in February below.
Indoor Athletics Championships
Following the representation of almost 90 different universities at last year’s event, thousands of students will once again compete for gold at this year’s Indoor Athletics Championships from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th.
From explosive speed in the 60m to electrifying heights of the Pole Vault, the annual Championships feature a variety of different competitions, allowing students to showcase their talents on the national stage.

Long Course Swimming Championships
The UK’s finest student swimmers will once again gather at the fantastic Ponds Forge International Sports Centre to compete in one of the most highly anticipated events on the UK university sporting calendar.
The three-day event which begins on Friday 28th February will see swimmers compete across a range of distances and disciplines. From Backstroke to Freestyle, students will compete for over 60 gold medals and earn the honour of being crowned a UK National Champion.

Badminton: Individual Championships
The annual Badminton Championships return to the UK Sports Institute complex in Sheffield as hundreds of students will represent their universities in straight knockout-style competitions in order to be crowned National Champions.
Both men’s and women’s singles and doubles competitions will begin on Friday 23rd as this year’s Championships promise to deliver another exhilarating showcase of badminton talent at the university level in the UK.

Karate Championships
The highly anticipated BUCS Karate Championships, which mark the pinnacle of the UK university karate season, are set to kick off on Friday, the 23rd, at BUCS Nationals 2024.
Students will compete for gold in two categories, including the dynamic disciplines of Kumite and the precise forms of Kata, showcasing a growing sport at the university level in the UK.

Climbing Championships
The 2024 Climbing Championships return to Sheffield as students from universities across the UK will begin their climb for gold on Friday 23rd February.
Now in it’s third year, both novice and experienced climbers will compete across three difficulties during the one-day event, ranging from easy, medium, and hard. From boulder problems to lead climbs, students will test their strength, endurance, and mental focus in order to be crowned National Champions.

Fencing Championships
The pinnacle of the UK university fencing season makes its triumphant return to the BUCS Nationals in 2024.
The UK University Fencing Championships will take place on Saturday the 24th February and see students from across the UK showcase the artistry of fencing in three distinct weapons: the precision of Epee, the lightning-fast strikes of Sabre, and the strategic elegance of Foil.
