Happy International Day of Education!
In 2019, The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
This year’s theme is “Changing Course, Transforming Education”. Without inclusive and equitable quality education for all, countries cannot succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of potential students behind.
To celebrate International Day of Education this year, we have put together 5 interesting facts about education in the U.K.
1. The number of international students is growing yearly
International students from all over the world regularly select the U.K. as their preferred study destination. In 2019/20 there were over 530,000 overseas students studying at U.K. universities, making up 22% of the total student population!
2. The U.K. is home to some of the most iconic names in world education
There are a number of U.K. institutions that are world renowned for their subjects, courses and professors. There are also many universities and schools that have a very strong focus upon a specific subject area, such as business or engineering.
3. Employment opportunities during and beyond graduation
An international student studying in the U.K. is permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during school term. The Graduate Route visa also offers graduates of U.K. universities the opportunity to apply to stay in the U.K. for a further two years to seek employment.
4. Complete your degree quicker and save money
U.K. university degrees are completed quicker than many other countries meaning that you will graduate quicker and save money! In addition to the shorter duration of courses, there are always a wide range of scholarship opportunities for international students.
5. Wide range of study areas to choose from
