Student Sporting Insight #03
In our latest Student Sport Insight, we speak to University of South Wales graduate Ajay about his experience as an international student in the UK.
Ajay provides an in-depth insight into what studying a Sports Coaching and Performance degree is like in the UK and discusses some of the many highlights from his time studying abroad.
“One of the many highlights was how the course was structured. The manner in which the assignments were designed for students was a way in which we could learn and ensure that we get the knowledge to apply it in a practical scenario.
The opportunity to do a work placement with a professional organisation was another highlight. To be a part of that environment and gain as much experience as possible from that particular work placement, I think was invaluable.”
As well as pursuing his sports degree, Ajay had the opportunity to gain practical experience by becoming part of the coaching setup with his university’s football team.
“My course required a minimum of 140 hours of work placement so it was up to us to apply to different organisations depending on our area of interest.
I got the opportunity to work with Pontypridd United AFC in an analysis role. For the whole season, I worked with the first team, providing analysis and attending training sessions.
I was able to use software to analyse the games we had filmed and provided clips to the manager, coaches, and players.”
