Who are English Universities Sport?
English Universities Sport, often referred to as EUS, is the official association in England that administers all representative student sports and competitions across higher education in England.
EUS strives to support the development of student-athletes and provide opportunities for them to compete at the highest domestic representative level.
What is Representative Sport?
Each academic year the very best student-athletes from universities all over England have the opportunity to be selected to represent the English Universities National Representative Team.
Players are selected for the National Representative Teams via a series of trials. Players will first take part in regional trials and then from there, the best performers will move forward to the national trials. After the conclusion of the national trials, coaches in each of the participating sports will select their team to represent English Universities Sport in the year ahead.
The final selections see some of the very best student-athletes from all over England selected to make an All-Star team to take part in a series of special events and fixtures.
This sees some of the very best student-athletes from across the country selected to represent England in an All-Star English University Representative Team.
Who is eligible for English Universities Sport?
It may surprise you to learn that you do not have to hold an English passport to get selected to represent the English Universities National Team. English Universities Sport representative teams are often made up of a wide range of different nationalities.
Any student-athlete studying at an English University, that is affiliated with EUS, is eligible to be put forward for trials to represent the English Universities Representative Squad.

EUS currently organises events and selects a National Representative Team in the following sports:
Men’s Football
Women’s Football
Netball
Women’s Rugby
Men’s Rugby
Men’s Hockey
Women’s Hockey
Men’s Basketball
Women’s Basketball
What opportunities do EUS players have?
In recent years EUS representative teams have organised matches against high-level amateur and professional clubs in a variety of sports, allowing players to test themselves against an elite standard.
The players that are selected to represent the All-Star English Universities Representative Squad have the opportunity to compete in a variety of exciting events and fixtures such as:
The Challenge Cup
In some sports, The Challenge Cup takes place during the trials process. This competition sees the final group of trials split into two teams (Northern and Southern) to battle for the title.
Home Nations Tournaments
Every two years the EUS teams will also compete for the Home Nations Tournaments, competing against further representative squads from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. The best athletes from each of the four participating nationals have the chance to compete to be named the best in the United Kingdom.
