Swimming is one of the most popular individual sports within the U.K. University Sport System
With world class swimming facilities across the U.K. and events taking place throughout the academic year, the U.K. has a lot to offer any student who wishes to swim alongside their degree.
Each year some of Britain’s best young swimmers, alongside international student-athletes from other countries, compete within the U.K. university sport system whilst pursuing their degree. The standard of leading university swimming teams is very high and you will often be competing against those who have high aspirations to go far in the sport.

As with all sports in the U.K. university sport system, swimming is inclusive of student’s of all ability levels, experience and level of study.
Whilst the standard to win a championship within U.K. university swimming is high, it is common for universities to have a pathway in place that allow younger student-athletes the opportunity to train, compete and improve, with the view of working towards secure a place in the high performance team in later years.

The British University Swimming League (BUSL) is a competitive league, that provides swimmers with additional opportunities to race throughout the year alongside BUCS competition.

To help student-athletes reach their full potential in swimming, some U.K. universities have made considerable investment over reason years.
The leading U.K. university for swimming boast their own on campus pools and offer their student’s state of the art gyms and strength and conditioning facilities. Many universities will also employ multiple full-time coaches to ensure their student’s and getting all the support they need in maximising their potential in the pool but also managing their academic schedule.

The standard required to achieve a swimming scholarship will vary between universities.
